Paul-Henri Thillardon - Chénas 'Les Blemonts' 2012
This product is currently sold out.
Chénas is the smallest of the 10 Crus in Beaujolais, which is why its wines often fly under the radar. But its proximity to Moulin-a-Vent highlights the potential of these wines in the right hands. Paul-Henri Thillardon is a young, talented craftsman of Gamay that favours transparency and freshness in his wines.
'Les Blemonts' comes across in layers of dusty cherries and dark raspberries; this is more powerful than most Beaujolais (which makes sense considering the profile of Moulin-a-Vent). Silky tannins and a dense minerality are balanced beautifully by this elegant acidity. Unfiltered, farmed biodynamically, and bottled with low sulphites.

Paul-Henri Thillardon got his start at the young age of 10, when he started tinkering with wines in his parents' basement. When he took over the family estate he brought a touch of elegance to the family wines. These are superb examples of Beaujolais, and the fruit is managed so well.
He plows by horse and uses biodynamic methods in the vineyards. All his wines are unfiltered and unfined, showing a pure expression of Gamay.
