The Hermit Ram - 'Arden' Pinot Noir 2018
This product is currently sold out.
We have a confession to make: we kept these a secret from you last year.
You heard us all right—we shipped in just 12 bottles of one of Theo's finest Pinot Noirs—and didn't offer them for sale at all. We can explain. These are pretty expensive wines by our standards, and of course by New Zealand Pinot Noir standards. We wanted to make sure (through rigorous, difficult internal testing), that the wines were worth the money.
And then it turned out that in both 2019 and 2020, Theo didn't have enough Arden Pinot to make another vintage. So he offered us some more of his aged batch from 2018, and this time we didn't hesitate.
This is one of two of Theo's single-vineyard Pinot Noirs (the other being Limestone Hills), and they represent the most refined of his wines. These will benefit from ageing, and probably have decades ahead of them to develop.

In 2012 Theo Coles discovered the Limestone Hills vineyard in Canterbury in the north of New Zealand’s South Island. Owned by Gareth Renowdon, Theo agreed to make some wine with him from his 1000 or so Pinot Noir vines.
Since then Theo has expanded the range to include the skin fermented Sauvignon Blanc and Müller-Thurgau, a field blend rosé and another Pinot Noir. The fruit comes from tiny vineyards throughout the Canterbury region, all naturally farmed without chemicals and Theo is keen to stress that every wine has its own story to tell.
