Olivier Morin - Bourgogne Blanc 'Circonstance' 2016
This product is currently sold out.
When people think of Chardonnay, a name that quickly comes to mind is Chablis. But with fame, comes an increasing price tag to match.
So we cast our wine glasses south and looked to the neighbouring region of Chitry, which shares the same soil as Chablis, and very similar weather patterns. We knew there were a handful of excellent growers working here, and the wines of Olivier Morin spoke to us. These are hand-harvested, fermented with wild yeasts, and bottled with only a tiny dose of SO2.
If you know us by now, these are essential elements for us when looking for new growers. Unfortunately, Chitry was hit just as hard as Chablis was by hail and frost in 2016, and Olivier lost most of his crop. He usually makes a cuvée called 'Constance', but due to the horrible circumstances, he bought grapes from other organic winemakers in the region and created a one off "Circonstance". It's not ideal, but the wine has all the trademarks of his style. It's beautiful, clean, fresh, and elegant.

Burgundy is a region packed full of so many superstar producers that it's easy to overlook the many humble winemakers making stunning wines in quieter parts of the appellation.
Olivier Morin is one of these producers who, despite receiving rave scores in La Revue du vin de France, the notoriously critical French wine review, still remains hugely under the radar.
All the better for us, and for our customers. Olivier's wines are spectacularly well priced, and offer immense value. They'll develop wonderfully over the next few years.
