Rita and Rudolf Trossen - 'Vom Berg' Riesling Spätlese 2015
This product is currently sold out.
Rita and Rudolf make a huge variety of wine for such a small estate, and they are relatively unique in the Mosel for making such distinctive and creative cuvées. But that doesn't mean they can't make the classics—wines such as the 'Vom Berg' Spätlese that adheres more to what most people would consider to be a "Mosel Riesling".
This is an off-dry, piercing Riesling with an electric touch and only 8.5% ABV. The soils of the vineyard are south facing steep slate, and the 40-year-old vines are as healthy as can be. Indigenous yeasts are used as always, and because this is traditionally made, there is filtration and SO2 used to prevent the sugars from re-fermenting. Since this is Trossen wine, don't expect a SO2 bomb on the nose, but rather purity, elegance, and delicacy.

- Rita and Rudolf Trossen decided to break with modern winemaking practices in 1978, when they converted their entire estate to Biodynamics. They have been crafting wonderful Mosel Valley Rieslings ever since. In 2010, encouraged by many of their sommelier clients, they began to delve into the world of natural winemaking with their Pur’us line of wines, which have no intervention whatsoever.
The Trossen vineyards are full of slate, which resisted phylloxera completely, thus most of their vines are completely ungrafted and some approach 100 years old!
