Champagne Vadin-Plateau - 'Carac'terre' Premier Cru 2016
This product is currently sold out.
70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay from the Premier Cru of "Hautvillers" and the single vineyards of "Basses Montecuelle" and "Les Terres Jean Lelarge”. This is specific stuff, with only 1,001 bottles made (why not 1,000?). Organic viticulture, fermentation with native yeasts, malolactic fermentation done. Hence it's a bit breadier, richer than some of Yann's other wines.
This is a big wine, with big ambitions and aromas. 12 bottles available online, this can give any of the flagships from some more famous growers a run for their money (and at a fraction of the price).

Yann Vadin’s family have owned their estate since 1785, with vineyards spanning seven hectares across seven Premier and Grand Cru villages in the Vallee de la Marne. The winery specialises in Blanc de Noir wines, although there’s a small portion of Chardonnay. The majority of the wines are 40-years-old, although many are over 70-years-old.
With such excellent fruit to work with, Yann keeps things clean, with low intervention of course in the vineyards, but also in the cellar. Almost all his wines are bottled with no dosage, and Yann has converted the entire winery since 2012 to biodynamic and organic viticulture, attaining certification in 2017. In particular, since 2011 he’s been using concrete eggs for fermentation, which we’ve seen with amazing results for texture on some of our other wineries.
We’ve always loved wines from Cumières, and couldn’t be happier to work with such a promising and young winemaker.
