LePlan-Vermeersch - Cotes du Rhone 'GT-S' 2010
This product is currently sold out.
The 2010 Rhône vintage was exceptional for producing wines of exceptional ripeness and freshness. This is precisely where this edition of Dirk Vermeersch's 100% Syrah differs from the 2009 vintage; though both are intense and powerful, these 2010's stand out for the sweet streak of acidity that runs through the fruit. Ultimately, it's more balanced—and frankly, a great value considering the quality and vintage.
Though Dirk always recommends a vigorous decant for his wines, at this point 'GT-S' probably only needs around 30 minutes to open up. Once you pour a bit of this Syrah into a glass, it's difficult to ignore the lush bouquet that emerges.

"The 2010 GT-S made from 100% pure Syrah shows a beautiful deep dark color. Delivering notes of freshly ripened black and blue fruits, crème de cassis, exotic spices, pepper, mineral and toasted oak. This is full-bodied and supple, supported by polished tannins that guide the fruit into the long explosive finish. An excellent expression of Syrah." (Drink 2013-2020) - August, 2012

There are a lot of clichés thrown about regarding the wines of Domaine LePlan. Invariably they all refer to proprietor Dirk Vermeersch's racing past. As a former professional rally car driver forced to retire due to a serious injury, phrases like “high-octane” and “full-throttle” are often lazily used to describe his wines.
Yes, these wines are concentrated and rich—this is the Southern Rhône after all. But the first thing we noticed when we drank his wines wasn't the brawn, the power, or the oak—just the freshness. These are powerful wines with elegance and ambition.
