Rita and Rudolf Trossen - Rot 2015
This product is currently sold out.
The Mosel is pretty much synonymous with off-dry, electric Riesling, so you can imagine how high and furrowed our eyebrows went when Rita and Rudolf mailed us a sample of this bottle.
We cracked it open and took a sip, and instead of quelling our questions, only more arose. How was it so light, yet so rich? How was there so much dark fruit, yet so much freshness? How was it so good? What did they do?
You'll have to try it out for yourself to see, but it's a perfect wine to drink now or over the next three years over a picnic. This is a handpicked blend of Pinot Noir and Dornfelder fermented with indigenous yeasts, with 14 days of skin-maceration. The wine has an extremely clean and long finish, aided with a tiny bit of SO2 and a very light filtration.

- Rita and Rudolf Trossen decided to break with modern winemaking practices in 1978, when they converted their entire estate to Biodynamics. They have been crafting wonderful Mosel Valley Rieslings ever since. In 2010, encouraged by many of their sommelier clients, they began to delve into the world of natural winemaking with their Pur’us line of wines, which have no intervention whatsoever.
The Trossen vineyards are full of slate, which resisted phylloxera completely, thus most of their vines are completely ungrafted and some approach 100 years old!
