Suenen - 'MBDA' Extra Brut NV
This product is currently sold out.
Suenen is one of the most promising young producers in Champagne, a grower recently highlighted by Eric Asimov of the New York Times for making wines of "finesse and precision along with savory, chalky flavors".
We are the first to bring his wines into Hong Kong, and have chosen a very limited amount of 'MBDA', which is his top cuvée. He only makes 'MBDA' in certain years, and this uses the 2010 vintage as a base vintage for the blend, with some reserve wines from 2009.
This is composed of 47% Chardonnay from Grand Cru Cramant and 53% Pinot Noir grapes from Montigny-sur-Vesle. It's richly chalky and saline, with aromas of flowers, ginger, nuts, lemons, and a long mineral finish. A hugely impressive wine, with only 2485 bottles made in the vintage. Farmed biodynamically, with 5 g/l of dosage.

Suenen is one of the new stars of Champagne, based in the Grand Cru of Cramant, and nearby Montigny-sur-Vesle. They make serious wines with little regard for the traditional, widely popular style. Instead, these are focused, savoury, and mineral.
Right now Aurelien Suenen is the vigneron at the biodynamic estate, and the wines have been so impressive. Don't hesitate to try out the new face of grower champagne.
