Yann Bertrand - 'Coup d'Folie' Fleurie 2014
This product is currently sold out.
Like all of Yann’s wines, this is 100% Gamay grown organically with native yeasts. This is his fresh, younger version of Fleurie, which is bright and fresh. It shows the real joy of Beaujolais, and was fermented with semi-carbonic maceration and without any SO2 for 10-15 days.
Fleurie Folie was aged for 7-9 months ⅓ in 500 litre used demi-muids, and ⅔ in tank. The result is a wine that is full of flavour and intensity, but yet extremely light on the palate. Full of fruit, funk, and a brimming minerality.

Even though Yann Bertrand is from the famed winemaking village of Fleurie in Beaujolais, he never considered being a winemaker. After a short enrolment at a local university, he travelled around the French Alps to work at wine bars and shops. The journey opened up his mind and reintroduced the idea of becoming a winemaker to him.
Once he returned back to Beaujolais, he began meeting legendary natural producers by chance, such as Jean Foillard and Yvon Metras. Back at his family domaine, which is 7.5 hectares in predominantly Fleurie, with some vineyards in Morgon, he started making fresh, natural, but incredibly vinous wines. His vineyards are between 30 and 110 years old, and his parents started converting all their vineyards towards organics since 1992. In 2013, the entire estate was certified organic, and Yann is taking the next step towards a conversion to biodynamic agriculture.
